Patients undergoing surgery will be administered
anaesthesia in one of its various forms
so that the procedure is painless. The patient
should present himself at the pre-anaesthetic
assessment clinic run by Dr. M. Jagannath,
M.D., (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays,
6-8 pm) with results of basic
investigations -– blood, chest X-ray
and ECG. The anaesthesiologist assesses
the patient for fitness to undergo anaesthesia
and surgery. The assessment includes a physical
examination and a detailed medical history
of any other ailments like hypertension,
heart disease, Diabetes, Asthma etc. that
may be present, now or in the past, and
the medication being taken for the same.
It gives an idea about the state of the
heart, lungs and other systems of the body.
If there is any concurrent disease it should
be treated and well controlled prior to
surgery for the safe conduct of anaesthesia
and surgery. Previous h/o surgery and outcome
both of anaesthesia and surgery will be
useful. |
