Professor Mohan Kameswaran, Managing Director & Senior Consultant of Madras ENT Research Foundation, is the Visiting Professor of Rajah Muthiah Medical College Hospital, Annamalai University, Chidambaram and at Sri Ramachandra Medical University, Chennai.

He has been a recipient of the ‘PADMA SHRI’ National Award by the Government of India in recognition of his distinguished and exceptional service in the field of Medicine in 2006. He was also awarded the prestigious ‘Indo-Australian Award’ for Meritorious Service by the Indo-Australian Association, and ‘For the sake of Honour Award’ by Rotary club of Madras Esplanade in 2006. He was the recipient of ‘Award for Excellence of Service’ in appreciation of contribution to Pioneering Cochlear Implant Program in Srilanka, by the President of Srilanka, in 2006, ‘Award for Service’ from Vidya Jyothi Sir Arthur C. Clarke, Srilanka in 2006 and Conferred ‘Award for Excellence’ in appreciation of outstanding contribution towards the Cochlear Implant Group of India, by His Excellency, the Governor of Kerala, in 2006. He was awarded the ‘Shri Shyam Lal Saxena Memorial Award 2005-2006’ by the National Academy of Medical Sciences for the best-published work in the field of bio-medical engineering by bio-medical scientists. He is the only Indian to be elected as a Member of the Governing Body-Asia-Pacific Cochlear Implant Board, in 2007. He was conferred the prestigious ‘Tamilnadu Scientist Award-2007’ by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Government of Tamil Nadu in 2008 and was also conferred ‘Doctor of Science (Honoris–Causa)’ by The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University in 2008.

He is one of the pioneers of Cochlear Implant Surgery in India and was responsible for starting Cochlear Implant surgery in many cities in India, Sri Lanka & Nepal. He is the FIRST Surgeon in South and South East Asia to have performed the AUDITORY BRAIN STEM IMPLANT and the FIRST PAEDIATRIC BRAINSTEM IMPLANT in Asia, January 2009. He is also the FIRST surgeon in Asia Pacific region to have performed the TOTALLY IMPLANTABLE HEARING DEVICE surgery.

He graduated from Madras Medical College. He got his MS from Madras Medical College, Chennai and his Fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He has received several gold medals in his undergraduate and postgraduate days. Along with general ENT Surgical work, he has focused on Cochlear Implants, Laser Surgery, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and Skull Base Surgery. He is a pioneer in cochlear implant surgery and has the distinction of doing the first Contour Cochlear Implant & Freedom implant in the country. He is the first surgeon in India & South East Asia to have performed the Auditory Brain Stem Implant. He was also the first to introduce the KTP/532 laser in ENT surgery in India, this being the most advanced laser in the world. He has more than 75 publications in major international journals. He is an outstanding teacher and has been duly recognized by the Royal College of Surgeons for which he is an overseas tutor. He has worked as a professor of ENT in King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. He is the first Indian ENT surgeon to have been invited as a Guest Faculty by the prestigious British Academy Conference in 2006. He has also conducted several workshops for the benefit of the Post Graduate students in ENT, including advanced techniques in ENT surgery. He also has to his credit a textbook on ‘Tropical Diseases in ENT’. He is a Doctor with a social consciousness & conducts free ENT camps in several parts of rural India. He has mentored ENT surgeons who hold positions of distinction in various parts of the country.

 
 

Prof. Mohan Kameswaran was elected as an Executive Board Member of the International Federation of Otorhinolaryngological Societies (IFOS), in the recently concluded XIX WORLD CONGRESS OF OTO-RHINO-LARYNGOLOGY held from June 1 to 5, 2009 at São Paulo, Brazil.

The first Indian elected to the executive board of the Politzer Society in the recently concluded meet of Politzer Society of London Sept 3 to 5, 2009.
 
     
  Dr.R.S.ANAND KUMAR  - Academic Director  
 
Dr.R.S.Anand Kumar, BSc, MS, DLO has over 29 yrs experience in ENT and Head & Neck surgery. He is a Senior ENT consultant and his interests are in the field of Cochlear implantation, Laser surgery, Endoscopic sinus surgery and Skull base surgery. He has conducted several workshops and takes care of all academic activities in the institution. He also directs the postgraduate program and supervises the training of doctors. He has the Distinction of being awarded the MAMS from the National Academy of Medical Sciences. He is Fellow of the International College of Surgeons.
 
     
  Dr. SATHIYA MURALI, MBBS, Dip. NB, DLO  
 
She is one of the outstanding neuro-otologists in India and heads the Department of Balance disorders and the Vestibular lab at Madras ENT Research Foundation. She has presented her original work at the “International Symposium on serious fungal diseases” at Cannes, France. She attended Annual Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Course at Singapore General Hospital and Postgraduate Institute and participated in Advanced Otology workshop organized by Prof. Ugo Fisch, Fisch Foundation at Mumbai. Her interests are in the field of Neurotology & Vestibular Medicine. She had special training in audio vestibular lab at Uniklinik, University of Achen, Germany in 2007 She has over 14 yrs experience in ENT and Head & Neck surgery She graduated from Coimbatore Medical College, and subsequently obtained her DLO and DNB. She is a teaching faculty in MERF Institute of Speech and Hearing, and conducts special courses and hands on training for students in vestibular medicine. Her other special interests are Laser surgery, Endoscopic sinus surgery, Skull base surgery and Micro ear surgery.
 
     
  Dr. KIRAN NATARAJAN, MBBS, Dip. NB, DLO  
 
She heads the Allergy clinic at MERF. Her interests are in the field of Allergy and Rhinology, Laser surgery, Endoscopic sinus surgery and Micro ear surgery. She is a teaching faculty in MERF Institute of Speech and Hearing, and conducts special courses and hands on training for students in Allergy and Rhiology. She graduated from Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai. She obtained her DLO from Madras Medical College, Chennai & DNB from Madras ENT Research Foundation. She was a national topper and was the recipient of ‘Prof.S.Kameswaran Gold Medal’ in the NBE in the year 2002. She has 8 yrs experience in ENT and Head & Neck surgery.
 
     
  Dr. S. Sudhamaheswari MBBS, Dip. NB  
 
She graduated and obtained her MBBS from Thanjaur medical College, Thanjavur & DNB from Madras ENT Research Foundation. She is a Consultant ENT surgeon at Madras ENT Research Foundation, Mandaiveli centre and Senior Registrar at Madras ENT Research Foundation. She is a teaching faculty in MERF Institute of Speech and Hearing. Her interest is in the field of Community Otorhinolaryngology.
 
     
  Dr. S. Raghunandhan, MS, Dip.NB, MRCS (Ed), DOHNS (Eng)  
 
He graduated from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University in 2000 and completed his Post-graduate training in ENT–Head & Neck Surgery from Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai in 2004. He qualified the Diplomate of National Board Exams, while working as a Senior Registrar at MERF in 2005. He traveled to the UK in 2006 & obtained the Diplomate Membership of the Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery Council of The Royal College of Surgeons of England. He also became a Member of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2008. He has obtained surgical training in the Dept. of Craniofacial, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai and has trained in Head & Neck Oncology from the Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar. He is presently Consultant ENT surgeon at Madras ENT Research Foundation and a teaching faculty at the MERF–Institute of Speech and Hearing. He is pursuing PhD doctoral research work in the filed of Electrophysiology in cochlear Implantees, under the Guidance of Prof. Mohan Kameswaran at MERF & Prof. A. Ravikumar at Sri Ramachandra University. His special interests include Cochlear Implantation, Skull-base Surgery, Head & Neck Oncology and Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
 
     
  Dr. P. Vijaya Krishnan MBBS, Dip. NB, DLO  
 
He graduated and obtained his MBBS from Tirunelveli Medical College, Tiruelveli and DLO from Madurai Medical College, Madurai & DNB from Madras ENT Research Foundation. He is a Consultant ENT surgeon at Madras ENT Research Foundation, Mandaiveli centre and Senior Registrar at Madras ENT Research Foundation. He is a teaching faculty in MERF Institute of Speech and Hearing. His interest is in the field of Sleep Disorders and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. He organized Live Surgical Workshop On “Obstructive Sleep Apnoea” – Current Concepts in Dec 2007 and on Balloon Sinuplasty’08 in Oct 2008.
