Madras ENT Research Foundation offers facilities for neonatal and infant hearing screening. Even a new born child can be assessed for hearing by a special test called Oto Acoustic Emissions (OAE). Children who do not pass this test are later subjected to more elaborate tests of hearing. OAE test is non-invasive, easy to perform and takes only a few minutes.

MERF conducts regular infant screening programmes for early detection of deafness in house & also at various other institutions in the city as well as in other parts of Tamil Nadu. MERF has uniquely started satellite centres at Coimbatore,Trichy and Madurai which also have state of the art equipment for diagnosis and work up of hearing loss among children.There is further scope for expansion of hablitation unit across the state which will further enhance the success of this unique model. The chief hablitation unit at Chennai regularly audits and supervises all the hablitation centres through a integrated network.
